I strongly denounce Union Home Minister @AmitShah's audacious push for Hindi acceptance. It's a blatant attempt to subjugate non-Hindi speakers. Tamil Nadu rejects any form of Hindi hegemony and imposition. Our language and heritage define us – we won't be enslaved by Hindi!

Many states like Karnataka, West Bengal also have been vehemently resisting #HindiImposition. Hon'ble @AmitShah, please take heed of the growing resistance! Igniting the embers of the '1965 Anti-Hindi Imposition Agitations' would be an unwise move.

Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued a firm rejoinder denouncing Union Home Minister Amit Shah for demanding that non-Hindi speaking citizens accept Hindi without opposition. Stalin described the remarks as an authoritarian attempt to subordinate diverse linguistic communities, declaring that Tamil Nadu is not a submissive territory that will surrender its ancient linguistic identity. He pointed out that language, literature, and cultural heritage define the collective dignity and self-respect of the Tamil people.

The Chief Minister observed that opposition to centralized linguistic hegemony is no longer restricted to Tamil Nadu, noting that resistance is growing across Karnataka, West Bengal, and other non-Hindi states. Stalin criticized central leaders for praising Tamil classical literature during visits to Chennai while simultaneously enforcing Hindi through administrative regulations in New Delhi. He cautioned central authorities against igniting the embers of the historic 1965 anti-Hindi agitations that reshaped modern Indian political history and state rights.

Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently champion the constitutional equality of all twenty-two scheduled languages. He called upon democratic parties to stand united in safeguarding regional cultural autonomy against continuous central encroachment and ideological homogenization.
