Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin delivered the special address at the 165th Convocation of the University of Madras in Chennai, sharing the stage with President Droupadi Murmu. Addressing academicians, faculty members, and graduating students, Stalin praised the historic institution established in 1857 for shaping generations of scholars, legal minds, political leaders, and Nobel laureates. He noted that the university's vibrant intellectual tradition continues to inspire modern higher education across South India.
The Chief Minister highlighted that under the Dravidian Model governance, Tamil Nadu has achieved a collegiate gross enrollment ratio exceeding fifty-one percent, far surpassing national averages. He credited progressive welfare policies, including free travel for women on government buses and the Pudhumai Penn monthly financial assistance scheme, for dismantling socioeconomic obstacles that previously prevented daughters of working-class families from entering university classrooms. Stalin asserted that public education remains the most effective instrument for social transformation.
Stalin urged the graduating scholars to utilize their academic qualifications for ethical leadership and inclusive national advancement. He reaffirmed that the state government will persistently expand university research grants and collegiate infrastructure statewide.
