Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin dispatched an urgent official communication to President Droupadi Murmu, appealing for immediate presidential assent to the Tamil Nadu Admission to Undergraduate Medical Degree Courses Bill. Stalin stressed that the unanimously adopted state legislation reflects the democratic will of the entire Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, seeking to shield aspiring doctors from underprivileged backgrounds from the devastating inequities of the NEET system.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test systematically undermines school education, creates immense commercial coaching monopolies, and tragically destroys the lives of talented rural and government school students. He explained that Tamil Nadu's medical admissions framework, previously based on Class XII qualifying marks, successfully created one of India's most equitable and geographically dispersed healthcare workforces. Stalin emphasized that withholding assent violates constitutional federalism and ignores widespread student anguish.
Stalin affirmed that the state government will never abandon its constitutional struggle until the exploitative entrance examination is dismantled. He urged the President to intervene decisively and uphold the legislative autonomy of Tamil Nadu.
Stalin reiterated that state control over professional educational admissions is essential to protect public healthcare infrastructure and ensure social equity.
