24 வயதில் பாடத் துவங்கி, 11 மொழிகளில் 10 ஆயிரத்துக்கும் மேல் திரைப்பாடல்கள், 2500 பக்திப் பாடல்களைப் பாடிய அவர், பட்டினத்தார், அருணகிரிநாதர் போன்ற படங்களிலும் நடித்திருக்கிறார். டி.எம்.எஸ் அவர்கள் பாடிய பக்திப் பாடல்கள் இன்றுவரை தமிழ்நாட்டின் அனைத்துக் கோயில்களிலும் திருவிழாக்களிலும் ஒலித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது.
அவரது நூற்றாண்டு விழாவையொட்டி, சென்னையில் அவர் வாழ்ந்த வீடு அமைந்திருக்கும் மந்தைவெளி வெளிவட்டச் சாலைப் பகுதிக்கு ‘டி.எம்.சௌந்தரராஜன் சாலை’ எனப் பெயர் சூட்டினோம்.
“திரை இசை, மக்கள் இசை யாரும் அடையாத உயரத்தைப் பெற்றவர் டி.எம்.எஸ். 1950-ஆம் ஆண்டு மந்திரிகுமாரி காலத்தில் இருந்து எனக்கு நண்பர். நடிகர்களுக்கு ஏற்ப குரலை மாற்றிப் பாடும் வித்தைக்காரர்” என முத்தமிழறிஞர் கலைஞரால் பாராட்டப்பட்டவர்.
கலைஞரின் வரிகளில், ஏ.ஆர். ரகுமான் இசையில் உருவான ‘செம்மொழியான தமிழ்மொழியாம்’ என்ற பாடலில், மற்ற இளம் பாடகர்களுடன் இணைந்து டி.எம்.எஸ் பாடியிருந்தார்.
காலத்தால் அழியாத பாடல்கள் பல பாடிய அவர் என்றென்றும் தமிழ் மக்களால் நினைவுகூரப்படுவார்.

Soundararajan in Madurai, commemorating the centenary celebrations of the musical icon whose magnetic voice captivated generations. Highlighting his illustrious career spanning over four decades, Stalin recounted that TMS began recording at age twenty-four, rendering more than 10,000 film songs across eleven languages alongside 2,500 devotional compositions that echo throughout Tamil Nadu's temples and public festivals.
The Chief Minister recalled that former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi shared an enduring personal friendship with TMS dating back to the 1950 film Mantiri Kumari, praising his peerless mastery in modulating vocal textures to match diverse acting legends. Stalin highlighted that the state government previously named a prominent arterial thoroughfare in Mandaveli, Chennai, as T.M. Soundararajan Road to honor his artistic residence. He noted that TMS lent his iconic voice to the Semmozhi anthem.
Stalin affirmed that honoring cultural trailblazers like TMS reflects the Dravidian Model's profound commitment to preserving Tamil artistic heritage. He celebrated TMS as an immortal cultural ambassador whose melodies will forever resonate across the global Tamil diaspora.
