Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin delivered the presidential address during the grand Fishermen Welfare Conference convened in Ramanathapuram district, outlining comprehensive administrative measures designed to empower coastal fishing communities. Addressing thousands of marine fisherfolk and community representatives, Stalin announced enhanced diesel subsidies, higher financial allowances during seasonal fishing bans, and expanded soft-loan facilities for modernizing country crafts and mechanized trawlers.
The Chief Minister stressed that his administration views coastal fishermen not merely as a vital economic constituency, but as frontline guardians of India's maritime boundary. He detailed welfare allocations aimed at building durable housing colonies, establishing state-of-the-art landing jetties, constructing hygienic fish processing hubs, and installing satellite transponders to ensure fisherman safety during oceanic distress. Stalin affirmed that these targeted initiatives translate the Dravidian Model's vision of inclusive economic equity into tangible reality.
Stalin reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu will consistently pressure the Union government to formulate permanent bilateral mechanisms preventing unlawful maritime arrests by Sri Lankan naval authorities. He concluded that his government will continuously defend fishermen's rights and secure dignified coastal livelihoods.
He assured the fishing fraternity that their welfare, security, and prosperity remain absolute priorities of Dravidian governance.
