Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin exposed the political duplicity of the Bharatiya Janata Party regarding the Katchatheevu islet issue, contrasting empty central posturing with the DMK's consistent defense of Tamil fishermen. Releasing a comprehensive video address, Stalin underscored that the DMK administration has unceasingly fought to retrieve Katchatheevu and preserve the unalienable traditional fishing rights of Indian fishermen in the historic Palk Strait.
The Chief Minister highlighted that while the Union BJP government remained a passive bystander as Sri Lankan naval forces repeatedly arrested Tamil Nadu fishermen and confiscated expensive mechanized trawlers, the party conveniently exploits the Katchatheevu issue for electoral gains. He reminded citizens that former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi fiercely registered constitutional objections during the 1974 agreement, and the DMK has consistently demanded central diplomatic intervention to restore sovereign rights.
Stalin demanded that the Union government take concrete diplomatic and bilateral measures with Sri Lankan authorities rather than engaging in cynical diversionary rhetoric. He reiterated Tamil Nadu's unshakeable resolve to defend the lives, livelihoods, and maritime dignity of its coastal fishing families.
Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu will never compromise on traditional fishing entitlements, demanding immediate central diplomatic intervention to protect vulnerable fishing families.
