Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin commemorated the 152nd birth anniversary of heroic freedom fighter and nationalist pioneer V.O. Chidambaranar, popularly celebrated as Kappalottiya Thamizhan. Stalin recalled VOC's defiant challenge to British colonial maritime monopoly by launching the Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company, alongside his immense personal sacrifices and rigorous imprisonment, during which he was subjected to harsh manual labor at Coimbatore prison.
The Chief Minister highlighted that beyond his anti-colonial resistance, VOC was an accomplished jurist, prolific author, visionary translator, and pioneering trade union organizer. Furthermore, he distinguished himself as an erudite classical Tamil scholar who painstakingly edited and published ancient literary masterpieces, including the Tolkappiyam and Tirukkural. Stalin observed that VOC embodied an extraordinary synthesis of patriotic fervor, social progressivism, and profound linguistic dedication.
Stalin pointed out that during his 150th birth anniversary commemorations, the Dravidian Model administration published VOC's complete writings and authoritative Tirukkural commentary to ensure wider public accessibility. He affirmed that the state government will undertake sustained educational and cultural initiatives to popularize VOC's towering contributions, administrative acumen, and patriotic sacrifices across the entire Indian republic.
