Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin delivered the live inaugural address at Media Meet 2023, organized in Chennai by the Kerala Media Academy in partnership with the Chennai Malayali Association. Speaking before a gathering of senior journalists, media educators, and cultural leaders, Stalin underscored the crucial role of independent journalism in safeguarding democratic institutions, federalism, and constitutional secularism against systematic polarization.
The Chief Minister recalled the shared historical and cultural fraternity connecting Tamil Nadu and Kerala, citing centuries of mutual intellectual influence and progressive social reform. He highlighted that responsible media organizations must consistently expose misinformation, scrutinize executive actions, and focus public attention on urgent livelihood concerns such as employment generation, inflation, and federal revenue sharing. Stalin emphasized that truthful reporting remains the bedrock of democratic resilience in times of institutional stress.
Stalin commended the Kerala Media Academy for providing a collaborative platform that unites media professionals across southern states. He affirmed that the Tamil Nadu government remains steadfast in defending freedom of expression and journalists' welfare. The Chief Minister concluded that democratic solidarity between progressive states and an independent press will ensure the preservation of India's diverse constitutional fabric.
