Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the Media Meet 2023 international conference in Chennai, organized by the Kerala Media Academy in collaboration with Malayali cultural organizations. During the event, Stalin released the analytical book The Changing Mediascape authored by veteran journalist B.R.P. Bhaskar, along with a docufiction titled Unmediated celebrating the journalistic contributions of media pioneer Sashi Kumar.
Addressing media delegates, editors, and scholars, Stalin expressed deep concern regarding mounting threats confronting India's secularism, linguistic pluralism, and federal democracy. He remarked that while democratic political parties resist authoritarian tendencies through electoral and legislative struggle, journalistic institutions have an indispensable duty to debunk manufactured falsehoods and prioritize genuine public issues. Stalin urged the media community to resist sensationalist distractions that obscure systemic economic hardships faced by working citizens.
The Chief Minister stressed that Tamil Nadu and Kerala share historic bonds forged through progressive social reform movements and rationalist enlightenment. He stated that the two southern states must stand united like a double-barrel gun to defend constitutional democracy, social justice, and regional rights, heralding a progressive dawn for the entire Indian republic.
