Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin unveiled the bronze statue and dedicated a modern memorial library in Namakkal to commemorate the peerless literary legacy of legendary Tamil orator and scholar Silamboli Chellappan. Hailed by scholar R.P. Sethu Pillai as 'the master orator bestowed upon Tamil,' Chellappan dedicated his entire life to popularizing the epic Silappathikaram across Tamil Nadu, continuing his public lectures even into his ninetieth year.
Stalin recalled that Chellappan enjoyed immense respect and deep personal affection from former Chief Ministers Perarignar Anna and Muthamizharignar Kalaignar. He highlighted Chellappan's distinguished administrative contributions as Director of Tamil Development and as a leading intellectual figure in World Tamil Conferences. The Chief Minister affirmed that the newly inaugurated knowledge center and library in Namakkal will inspire young generations to immerse themselves in classical Tamil literature and linguistic heritage.
The Chief Minister emphasized that honoring Tamil scholars is central to the cultural policy of the Dravidian movement. He reiterated that his administration is committed to preserving literary landmarks and celebrating scholars who preserved the linguistic pride of Tamils. Concluding his speech, Stalin declared that Silamboli Chellappan's intellectual contributions will endure as long as the Tamil language thrives.
