Chief Minister M.K. Stalin distributed keys and registration documents for brand-new subsidized autorickshaws to 148 women drivers and two transgender drivers during a welfare event in Chennai. The initiative provides capital subsidies and vehicle purchase support, enabling women and transgender individuals from marginalized backgrounds to secure dignified self-employment and achieve long-term economic independence.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Stalin emphasized that progressive governance must dismantle traditional gender barriers in urban transport. He stated that providing marginalized women and transgender drivers with their own commercial vehicles gives them direct financial stability, self-reliance, and public respect. Ministers Ma. Subramanian and C.V. Ganesan joined the Chief Minister in congratulating the beneficiaries as they commenced their professional journeys on city roads.
The Chief Minister underlined that social justice requires concrete economic tools rather than empty rhetoric. He recalled various affirmative programs launched by his government, including free bus travel for women and specialized loan assistance for transgender entrepreneurs. Stalin reaffirmed that empowering women and transgender individuals across non-traditional vocations remains an essential priority of the Dravidian Model government, ensuring inclusive growth and personal safety across urban communities.
