Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin moved an official resolution in the Legislative Assembly urging the Union government to conduct an immediate nationwide caste-based census alongside the delayed decennial census. Addressing legislators, Stalin stressed that comprehensive enumeration remains the bedrock for formulating equitable reservations, targeted welfare outlays, and progressive development programs across India.
Stalin pointed out that constitutional equality demands verifiable empirical data regarding backward communities, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes. Without updated caste demographics, state welfare allocations risk relying on outdated figures from past decades. He criticized central authorities for dragging their feet on this vital reform, arguing that equitable governance cannot function effectively in the dark.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the Dravidian movement has fought for social justice and proportional representation for over a century. He reminded the House that progressive policy interventions in education and public employment require an authentic snapshot of socio-economic realities. Concluding his speech, Stalin rallied all political parties across the legislative spectrum to pass the resolution unanimously, setting a benchmark for other Indian states to defend backward class rights against federal neglect.
