Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid moving homage to stalwart Dravidian ideologue and veteran legislator 'Vaaliba Periyar' A.V.P. Asaithambi on the occasion of his birth centenary. Recalling Asaithambi's fiery eloquence, prolific journalism, and fearless commitment to social reform, Stalin cited poignant words from his final public speech, in which Asaithambi declared that had the self-respect and Dravidian movements not emerged, backward communities would have remained destitute orphans in their own homeland.
Stalin highlighted Asaithambi's tireless work alongside Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and Perarignar Anna, pointing out that his youthful radicalism and unbending loyalty earned him the affectionate title 'Vaaliba Periyar.' As a parliamentarian, writer, and editor, Asaithambi fearlessly attacked caste hierarchy, superstition, and social oppression, inspiring entire generations of Tamil youth to embrace rationalist thought and political action. The Chief Minister noted that Asaithambi's sacrifices during linguistic agitations and political protests remain etched in Dravidian history.
Stalin affirmed that the present Dravidian Model government draws its moral authority and ideological strength from the sacrifices of stalwarts like Asaithambi. He urged contemporary cadres to emulate Asaithambi's uncompromising dedication to defending social justice, Tamil dignity, and secular democracy.
