Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presided over the State Advisory Board meeting for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities at the Secretariat in Chennai. Underscoring that the department for differently-abled welfare is directly administered under his portfolio, Stalin affirmed that safeguarding the self-respect, autonomy, and equal rights of persons with disabilities represents a foundational moral commitment of the Dravidian Model governance framework.
During the comprehensive review, Stalin evaluated the implementation of inclusive policies, including monthly maintenance allowances, barrier-free access in public buildings and transport, specialized skill training programs, and affirmative employment quotas across government departments. The Chief Minister interacted with disability rights advocates, non-governmental representatives, and board members, listening to practical recommendations regarding customized assistive devices, accessible digital infrastructure, and expanded educational scholarships for disabled students.
Stalin reiterated that his administration views disability rights not through the patronizing lens of charity, but through the uncompromising principle of social entitlement and constitutional dignity. He instructed departmental authorities to expedite grievance resolution and widen rehabilitation outreach, ensuring that every person with disabilities in Tamil Nadu receives the institutional support necessary to lead an empowered, independent, and dignified life.
