Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid solemn homage to the selfless martyrs of the border struggles on Linguistic Border Martyrs Day, observed on November 1. Reflecting on the historic reorganization of Indian states on a linguistic basis in 1956, Stalin reminded citizens that key border regions, including Tiruttani in the north and Kanyakumari in the south, became integral parts of Tamil Nadu only through relentless sacrifices and sustained grassroots mobilization.
Stalin recalled that countless brave activists, writers, and community leaders faced police batons, severe imprisonment, and hardship to defend Tamil territorial integrity. Their unyielding dedication ensured that Tamil-speaking areas were not severed from their cultural homeland during cartographic realignments. The Chief Minister affirmed that the state government considers it a sacred obligation to cherish their memory, maintain historical memorials, and provide ongoing welfare assistance to their surviving families.
Stalin emphasized that the legacy of these linguistic martyrs serves as an unshakeable foundation for Tamil Nadu's ongoing defense of state rights, language preservation, and cultural sovereignty. He urged today's youth to honor this heritage by defending federal autonomy against centralization across the country.
