Hailed by Mahatma Gandhi as the 'South Indian Jhansi Rani,' Anjalai Ammal stands as an enduring symbol of women's courage, civil resistance, and steadfast patriotism during India's independence movement.

Anjalai Ammal participated actively in the Non-Cooperation Movement, the Salt Satyagraha, and the 1942 Quit India struggle, enduring multiple imprisonments while carrying her infant child. By memorializing her legacy in public space, Stalin underscored the Dravidian administration's commitment to honoring indigenous freedom fighters whose sacrifices shaped modern India. He noted that Tamil women played an exceptional role in dismantling colonial rule, yet their contributions often remained obscured in mainstream historical narratives.
