Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the Governor's refusal to grant assent to legislative bills duly enacted by the state legislative assembly, characterizing the unilateral withholding of assent as unlawful, unconstitutional, anti-democratic, and contrary to the collective will of the people. Stalin stated that Governors appointed by the Union government possess no constitutional mandate to veto or paralyze legislation enacted by elected representatives representing eight crore citizens.
The Chief Minister asserted that the Raj Bhavan is being systematically utilized by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre to harass, destabilize, and obstruct non-BJP state administrations across the country. By indefinitely stalling bills related to state university chancellorships, public welfare, and state administration, Governors undermine cooperative federalism and attempt to function as parallel centers of unconstitutional authority.
Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu will persistently resist such authoritarian maneuvers through robust constitutional, legislative, and judicial measures. He emphasized that the struggle to preserve state autonomy and the sanctity of legislative assemblies is crucial for defending Indian democracy. Stalin declared that the state government will never surrender the democratic rights of the people of Tamil Nadu to unelected authorities.
