Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the state's flagship road safety initiative, Innuyir Kappom - Nammai Kakkum 48, reached a historic healthcare milestone by providing emergency medical treatment to its 200,000th beneficiary. Recalling that former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi pioneered the 108 emergency ambulance network in 2008, Stalin explained that despite widespread ambulance coverage, persistent accident fatalities prompted the introduction of the targeted 48-hour emergency scheme in December 2021.
Under this pioneering initiative, the state government fully finances critical medical care and surgical procedures up to one lakh rupees per individual during the crucial first 48 hours following a road accident. Stalin emphasized that surpassing two lakh beneficiaries represents two lakh lives and limbs preserved, preventing severe trauma and domestic tragedy across families throughout Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister commended Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, medical professionals, emergency technicians, and hospital networks for executing this life-saving intervention seamlessly across government and empaneled private hospitals. Stalin appealed to motorists and citizens to strictly observe traffic regulations, wear protective helmets, and practice defensive driving, ensuring safe travels and enduring peace for households statewide.
