Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the expunging of revolutionary social reformer Thanthai Periyar’s name and quote from the official records of the Rajya Sabha. The objection was raised by BJP members during a parliamentary address delivered by DMK Member of Parliament M.M. Abdulla, which resulted in the presiding officer expunging Periyar's reference from the legislative proceedings.

Stalin described the deletion as an egregious strangulation of freedom of speech within the temple of democracy. He reminded the nation that former Prime Minister V.P. Singh had openly acknowledged in Parliament that Thanthai Periyar’s tireless crusade for backward classes was the principal inspiration behind implementing the historic Mandal Commission recommendations. Expunging Periyar’s name from that very parliamentary floor, Stalin observed, is a shameful act of ideological intolerance.

The Chief Minister asserted that Thanthai Periyar continues to live in the hearts of millions of working people, remaining an enduring symbol of resistance against sectarianism and caste dominance. Stalin declared that neither parliamentary deletions nor political bias can erase Periyar's legacy. He called upon all progressives to invoke Periyar's name proudly across every democratic forum.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
