Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin awarded a special cash incentive of 4,000 rupees each to 3,449 sanitation workers and frontline municipal employees who demonstrated extraordinary courage and commitment during Cyclone Michaung. These frontline staff, drawn from various municipalities and deputed to Chennai and suburban districts, worked tirelessly under hazardous conditions to clear flood debris, desilt choked storm drains, and restore civic hygiene.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Stalin invoked Thirukkural's wisdom regarding selfless service, noting that their dedication in saving Chennai and surrounding districts from disease outbreaks and prolonged waterlogging deserves profound public appreciation. While residents remained indoors during torrential gales and flooding, sanitary workers stepped directly into submerged canals and slush-filled avenues to clear garbage, fallen trees, and toxic obstructions.
The Chief Minister emphasized that recognizing and rewarding sanitation workers is a moral obligation of the Dravidian Model governance, which upholds social dignity for manual and civic labor. In addition to the monetary reward, the government ensured comprehensive medical screenings and safety gear for all operational workers. Stalin stated that their tireless service proved instrumental in helping metropolitan Chennai regain normalcy swiftly following natural adversity.
