The recurring incidents of passengers from non-Hindi speaking states facing harassment by #CISF personnel for not knowing Hindi and being forced to accept the misguided notion that Hindi is the national language of India are deeply concerning. As the passenger Sharmilaa rightly pointed out, this is not just an issue concerning individuals but reflects a systemic insensitivity. It is imperative that the @CISFHQrs takes immediate steps to sensitise its personnel on how to treat passengers and educates them about the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of our Union. Discrimination has no place in our #INDIA; let's ensure equal respect for all languages.

Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed grave concern over recurrent incidents at national airports where passengers from non-Hindi-speaking states faced intimidation and verbal harassment from Central Industrial Security Force personnel. Highlighting a publicized incident experienced by passenger Sharmilaa, Stalin observed that non-Hindi travelers are unfairly pressured by security personnel who incorrectly assert that Hindi is the sole national language of India.

Stalin pointed out that this recurring issue is not an isolated interpersonal friction, but reflects deep-seated systemic insensitivity within central security agencies operating in diverse regions. India is a diverse union of linguistic states, and federal personnel deployed at transit gateways must understand and honor the multilingual constitutional framework of the country.

Calling directly upon the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and CISF leadership, Stalin demanded comprehensive training and cultural sensitization programs for all central force personnel. He emphasized that every Indian language possesses constitutional dignity and equal cultural stature. Linguistic profiling or coercion at airports violates the dignity of citizens and undermines federal unity, Stalin affirmed, reiterating that mutual linguistic respect must prevail across all federal institutions.
