Following the unprecedented rains caused by #CycloneMichaung, which affected Chennai and its neighbouring districts earlier this month, the southern districts of Tamil Nadu have now experienced historically high rain over the past few days. This has severely impacted the livelihoods of many and caused extensive damage to infrastructure.
At this crucial juncture, I have come to New Delhi, to meet our Honourable @PMOIndia and request adequate assistance from the Union Government to restore normalcy.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin arrived in New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek adequate financial and logistical assistance from the Union Government to restore normalcy across flood-affected regions. Stalin noted that earlier in the month, Cyclone Michaung wreaked widespread devastation in Chennai and adjoining districts, inundating residential zones and causing severe damage to municipal infrastructure.
Compounding this crisis, the southern districts of Tamil Nadu experienced historically record-breaking rainfall over recent days. The resulting deluge submerged towns, destroyed road networks, disrupted railway connectivity, and severely damaged crops and livelihood assets across Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, and Kanniyakumari. Stalin observed that the dual impact of two consecutive severe climatic events placed extraordinary burdens on the state’s population and public resources.
At this crucial juncture, the Chief Minister underscored that substantial assistance from the Union Government is imperative to rehabilitate millions of affected citizens. He stated that the state government is mobilizing all available administrative mechanisms, but national resources must be deployed in the spirit of cooperative federalism to reconstruct ruined infrastructure and ensure rapid economic revival across all distressed southern and northern districts.
