Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to apprise him of the grave situation in flood-affected regions across Tamil Nadu. Presenting a formal memorandum on behalf of the state, Stalin requested urgent financial allocations from the National Disaster Response Fund to augment rescue and relief missions and rebuild critical infrastructure wrecked by extraordinary monsoon downpours.
Stalin highlighted the sequential catastrophe of Cyclone Michaung in Chennai and neighboring northern coastal districts, followed by historic, unprecedented rainfall across Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, and Kanniyakumari. He conveyed that massive damage to roads, bridges, electricity supply grids, and agricultural lands requires immediate central fiscal partnership beyond routine state contingency funds.
The Chief Minister thanked the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister’s Office for their attentive hearing and willingness to address Tamil Nadu’s acute requirements during these challenging times. Stalin underlined that federal cooperation is essential when natural calamities exceed the fiscal threshold of individual states. He urged swift central processing of the memorandum so that reconstruction work and livelihood restitution can proceed without bottleneck delays across all severely impacted rural and urban areas.
