Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin underscored that climate change can only be solved through decisive global and local collective action. Commemorating the sixth anniversary of the 'Pasumai Saidai' green initiative, which he founded to plant and maintain over 110,000 urban trees, Stalin launched a dedicated drive to plant 5,000 fresh saplings to replace vegetation lost during Cyclone Michaung.

The Chief Minister described this urban afforestation effort as timely seasonal cultivation essential for environmental sustainability. Severe gale-force winds from the cyclone uprooted mature avenue trees across Chennai, necessitating systematic ecological restoration. Stalin emphasized that planting native, wind-firm saplings will restore green cover, enhance biodiversity, and mitigate future urban heat island effects.

Highlighting Tamil Nadu's proactive climate leadership under the Dravidian Model governance, Stalin noted that the state has established pioneering climate missions, green funds, and robust coastal protection policies. He urged youth, resident associations, school students, and local civil society groups to actively participate in neighborhood tree-planting drives. Combating climate vulnerability, Stalin concluded, requires long-term environmental stewardship, scientific urban planning, and constant public involvement in expanding urban forests across metropolitan zones.
