Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed media inquiries regarding disaster relief funding, pointing out that the Union Government has only released standard State Disaster Response Fund installments while delaying National Disaster Response Fund allocations. Speaking after inspecting flood-damaged southern districts, Stalin stressed that routine quarterly SDRF disbursements are routine state entitlements and do not constitute emergency central assistance for unprecedented weather disasters.
Stalin noted that Tamil Nadu faced two back-to-back catastrophic natural disasters within weeks: Cyclone Michaung in northern coastal districts and historical downpours in the south. The scale of devastation to roads, railway tracks, electric power networks, and residential settlements demands substantial supplemental funds from the central repository.
On behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu, the Chief Minister repeatedly urged the Union Government to sanction emergency NDRF funds without further administrative delays. He reiterated that devastating natural calamities must be addressed through cooperative federalism and compassionate solidarity rather than bureaucratic hesitation. Timely financial assistance from the Centre, Stalin emphasized, is an urgent constitutional necessity to help the state rebuild critical public assets and provide dignified relief to millions of affected citizens.
