Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid solemn homage to the thousands of innocent lives lost during the catastrophic Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004 on its nineteenth anniversary. Stalin recalled the immense grief that swept coastal communities across Tamil Nadu when monstrous waves struck seaside villages, disrupting entire generations of fishing families. He stressed that honoring the memory of disaster victims demands proactive administrative resolve to protect coastal habitats from escalating climate change emergencies.
The Chief Minister highlighted that recurring cyclonic storms, rising sea levels, and unpredictable rainfall require constructing robust, climate-resilient infrastructure along the state's vulnerable coastline. He emphasized that safeguarding natural defenses, including mangrove forests, coastal sand dunes, and coral reefs, forms the indispensable first step in mitigating future disaster impacts. The Dravidian Model administration has implemented comprehensive climate adaptation initiatives, including the pioneering Tamil Nadu Coastal Restoration Mission.
Stalin urged citizens, scientists, and urban planners to collaborate in building disaster-prepared communities and conserving natural ecosystems. He reaffirmed the government's unwavering pledge to protect fragile coastlines, support traditional coastal fishermen, and construct sustainable infrastructure capable of withstanding extreme climatic events.
