🌀 Having weathered 50 cyclones in the past century, Tamil Nadu, with the second-largest coastline in India, remains under constant threat. Recent torrential rainfall in southern districts adds to the woes post-#CycloneMichaung.
📄 Hon’ble TN Fin Min Thiru @TThenarasu, Thoothukkudi MP Tmt @KanimozhiDMK, and senior officials briefed Hon'ble Union Fin Min Tmt @NSitharaman about the current situation and relief works carried out by GoTN. They handed over a comprehensive 72-page memorandum underscoring the critical need for funds in response, relief, and restoration efforts.
With only limited fund available under SDRF, the damage far exceeds the current resources. Tamil Nadu earnestly seeks substantial assistance from the Union Govt to confront these unprecedented challenges.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin underscored the urgent need for substantial financial assistance from the Union government, highlighting that a state delegation submitted an exhaustive seventy-two-page damage memorandum to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi. Led by state Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, Thoothukkudi MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, and senior secretaries, the delegation briefed the Union minister on catastrophic destruction caused by Cyclone Michaung and unprecedented torrential floods in southern districts.
Stalin pointed out that Tamil Nadu, possessing India's second-longest coastline, has endured over fifty severe cyclones in the past century and remains on the frontline of global climate disasters. With the state's limited State Disaster Response Fund nearly depleted, the extent of infrastructural damage and public distress vastly exceeds available local finances. The memorandum detailed urgent financial requirements for permanent reconstruction of roads, bridges, irrigation canals, and power grids.
The Chief Minister urged the Union government to recognize the disaster as a national calamity and release requested central funds expeditiously. He stressed that timely federal fiscal assistance is essential for rehabilitating vulnerable citizens and fortifying coastal defenses against climate risks.
