Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin released the historical work Periyar and Vaikom Struggle and a commemorative centenary souvenir at Periyar Thidal in Chennai. Following the untimely passing of former opposition leader and actor Captain Vijayakant, the large-scale centenary public convention originally planned at Nandambakkam was respectfully cancelled. Instead, the literary releases were conducted in a dignified, solemn manner at the memorial of rationalist leader Thanthai Periyar.

Stalin shared the commemorative addresses prepared by himself and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, reaffirming the enduring historical solidarity between Tamil Nadu and Kerala in defending social reform and self-respect. The landmark 1924 Vaikom temple entry movement, where Periyar earned the title 'Vaikom Veerar' for defying princely orthodox bans, remains a foundational milestone in South India's struggle against caste untouchability.

The Chief Minister affirmed that the centenary commemoration serves as an ideological reminder that the Dravidian movement's fight for human equality and universal dignity remains vibrant. He declared that Tamil Nadu and Kerala will continue to cooperate closely to protect constitutional social justice and secularism against reactionary socio-political forces that seek to divide society along regressive sectarian lines.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
