Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the landmark Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus at Kilambakkam on Chennai's southern outskirts, dedicating India's largest and most technologically advanced integrated bus terminal to public use. Spanning over eighty-eight acres with modern passenger amenities, climate-controlled waiting halls, EV charging stations, and extensive commercial zones, the world-class facility resolves chronic traffic congestion along the Grand Southern Trunk Road while catering smoothly to the transit needs of a growing metropolis.
The terminal serves over one lakh commuters daily, accommodating south-bound government and private interstate omnibuses. Stalin highlighted that the terminal honors former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's pioneering contributions to public transit infrastructure. He emphasized that the Dravidian Model administration focuses on creating sustainable, passenger-friendly mass transit facilities that connect suburban neighborhoods seamlessly to urban employment centers.
Stalin stated that comprehensive urban mobility requires integrating long-distance bus hubs with suburban rail and forthcoming metro networks. He reaffirmed that his government remains committed to executing monumental infrastructure projects on time, ensuring that Chennai develops into a modern, accessible, and liveable global metropolis equipped with world-class public transportation for all citizens.
