Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin celebrated the opening of the New Year by releasing renowned poet Vairamuthu's monumental poetic work Maha Kavithai during an inspiring literary gathering in Chennai. Attended by leading writers, scholars, and environmentalists, the event transformed festive celebrations into an urgent public discussion on ecological conservation. Stalin explained that the poem explores the primordial relationship between humanity and the five elements, the four directions, the three phases of time, two landscapes, and our solitary living planet.
The Chief Minister emphasized that rising planetary temperatures, catastrophic cyclonic floods, and erratic monsoons demand immediate climate action rather than passive rhetoric. He commended Vairamuthu for using the power of Tamil poetry to articulate pressing environmental hazards, including global warming, ocean degradation, and biodiversity collapse. Stalin stated that literature must awaken public conscience to protect nature for posterity.
Reaffirming Tamil Nadu's proactive environmental governance, Stalin highlighted pioneering state programs, including the Tamil Nadu Green Climate Company, Climate Change Mission, and Wetlands Mission. He urged citizens to love, revere, and actively protect natural resources, making ecological responsibility a daily civic habit across communities.
