Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that an all-party delegation of Tamil Nadu members of parliament submitted a detailed memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, demanding immediate disaster relief funds. The state faced consecutive catastrophic weather events, including Cyclone Michaung's devastation in northern districts and unprecedented torrential floods across southern coastal areas. The delegation urged the Union government to disburse adequate financial assistance to accelerate essential rebuilding and livelihood restoration.
Stalin pointed out that central assessment teams had already visited the affected districts, inspected structural damages, and recorded public distress firsthand. He expressed earnest hope that the Union government will objectively review the submitted documentation and grant required relief outlays without procedural delays. The state government mobilized its limited State Disaster Response Fund and internal resources to deliver prompt emergency assistance to impacted families.
The Chief Minister stressed that equitable central financial assistance is a legitimate federal entitlement rather than administrative charity. He affirmed that the Tamil Nadu government remains steadfast in demanding comprehensive union assistance to reconstruct damaged roads, restore irrigation networks, and safeguard affected citizens against recurring climatic shocks.
