Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that he will inaugurate the newly constructed Kalaignar Centenary Jallikattu Arena at Keelakarai near Alanganallur in Madurai on January 24. Celebrating the traditional bull-taming sport, Stalin noted that over one hundred Jallikattu events were organized across Tamil Nadu during the festive Pongal season. More than sixty-six thousand robust native bulls and twenty-five thousand courageous tamers entered the sporting arenas, drawing an estimated three lakh enthusiastic spectators who witnessed the ancient cultural spectacle firsthand.
Stalin observed that the sport symbolizes Tamil valor, rural identity, and deep agricultural bonds between farming communities and native cattle breeds. The state government constructed the world-class arena in Madurai to provide permanent, modern, and safe infrastructure for participants and visitors alike. Successful tamers and bull owners received valuable prizes, honoring their dedication to preserving indigenous livestock breeds and ancestral traditions.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the Dravidian Model administration's resolute commitment to safeguarding Tamil cultural heritage for future generations. He emphasized that establishing dedicated civic infrastructure honors local history while ensuring the cultural sport thrives securely under regulated, dignified standards across southern districts for decades ahead.
