Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed thousands of cheering bull tamers, farmers, and citizens during the live-streamed inaugural ceremony of the Kalaignar Centenary Jallikattu Arena in Alanganallur, Madurai. Stalin declared that Jallikattu is not merely a folk sport, but an inseparable symbol of Tamil identity, agricultural tradition, and rural valor celebrated for over two millennia. He highlighted how the DMK persistently fought legal and political battles to protect the cultural sport from arbitrary bans.
The Chief Minister described the architectural splendor of the new stadium, built at an outlay of sixty-two crore rupees to provide world-class amenities for spectators, tamers, and native bull breeds. Stalin noted that former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi always championed rural sports and Tamil cultural resurgence throughout his legislative career. By dedicating this arena in Kalaignar's centenary year, the state government has created a globally renowned sporting destination in the heart of the Madurai countryside.
Stalin commended the public works engineers and rural artisans for executing the grand arena with extraordinary craftsmanship. He affirmed that the facility will promote sports tourism and stimulate regional commerce for local communities.
