Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin delivered the keynote address at the Language Martyrs Day memorial rally organized at Anna Nagar in Chennai, broadcast live across television and digital platforms. Stalin paid emotional tributes to the heroic martyrs of the historic 1965 anti-Hindi agitation who sacrificed their lives to protect Tamil linguistic heritage and prevent the imposition of a single national language. He noted that the Dravidian movement's unyielding resistance preserved linguistic diversity throughout non-Hindi-speaking states.
The Chief Minister asserted that the struggle to protect regional language rights remains just as urgent today, citing the union government's subtle attempts to enforce Hindi through education policies and recruitment exams. Stalin emphasized that linguistic equality represents a fundamental democratic entitlement, not a regional concession. He commended party cadres for assembling in vast numbers to honor the legacy of early Dravidian leaders who built a self-respecting and progressive society.
Stalin called on the younger generation to stay vigilant and actively oppose cultural homogenization. He affirmed that Tamil Nadu will remain at the forefront of the national struggle to defend the rights, identity, and linguistic dignity of all Indian states.
