Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced major commercial achievements during his official investment tour in Spain, including a 2,500 crore rupee agreement with global shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd. Meeting Managing Director Jesper Kanstrup and Director Albert Lorente, Stalin finalized a memorandum of understanding to establish modern cargo terminals and industrial logistics parks. The project focuses primarily on developing Thoothukudi and southern coastal belts into integrated international freight corridors.
The Chief Minister also engaged in strategic discussions with Lauro Berjano, head of institutional relations at infrastructure corporation Abertis. Stalin invited the company to invest in modernizing Tamil Nadu's extensive highway networks and tollway corridors to support growing industrial traffic. He emphasized that robust expressways and seamless port connectivity remain vital to expanding regional manufacturing and boosting export competitiveness across global supply networks.
Stalin affirmed that his administration remains dedicated to dispersing industrial development across tier-two and tier-three centers rather than concentrating investments around Chennai. He noted that modern port infrastructure in Thoothukudi will generate thousands of specialized logistics jobs for local youths and stimulate regional economic transformation across southern coastal districts.
