Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin voiced strong condemnation of the Union government's interim budget, describing it as an empty document that completely neglected the legitimate demands of Tamil Nadu. Stalin pointed out that the fiscal statement provided neither solutions for pressing economic challenges nor any tangible assurances for future growth. He criticized the absence of relief for the middle class, noting that income tax slabs remained unchanged despite persistent inflation.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the budget completely ignored Tamil Nadu's urgent requests for central disaster relief funds following catastrophic floods in Chennai and southern districts. He also criticized the lack of budgetary commitments for legal minimum support prices for farmers and the persistent delays surrounding the long-announced AIIMS hospital in Madurai. Stalin observed that while the state contributes substantially to central tax revenues, it continues to face step-motherly treatment during fiscal allocations and disaster mitigation disbursements.
Stalin asserted that the union government's discriminatory fiscal approach harms cooperative federalism and slows state-led development initiatives. He pledged that the DMK will persistently fight for Tamil Nadu's financial rights in parliament alongside allied parties.
