Urging Hon'ble PM Thiru. @narendramodi to address the urgent issue of Tamil fishermen's apprehension by Sri Lankan authorities. Recent weeks saw 88 fishermen & 12 boats seized. The nationalisation of seized boats by Sri Lankan Government exacerbates their plight. We need diplomatic efforts for their safety & the return of detained fishermen by Sri Lanka, Pakistan, & Kuwait. Immediate action is vital.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed an urgent appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pressing for high-level diplomatic intervention to protect Tamil fishermen facing ongoing harassment and arrest by Sri Lankan naval authorities. Stalin highlighted that eighty-eight fishermen and twelve mechanized fishing boats were seized in recent weeks alone, creating acute panic and financial devastation among coastal fishing villages. He condemned the Sri Lankan government's policy of nationalizing confiscated Indian fishing vessels, an aggressive practice that permanently strips impoverished marine workers of their livelihood.
The Chief Minister stressed that New Delhi must not treat attacks on Tamil fishermen with passive indifference, demanding that the Ministry of External Affairs deploy proactive diplomatic channels to secure their safety. He also urged coordinated consular measures to secure the repatriation of Tamil marine workers stranded or incarcerated in foreign jurisdictions, including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Kuwait. Stalin emphasized that protecting the fundamental security and maritime rights of Indian citizens is a non-negotiable sovereign duty.
Stalin reiterated that his government will continuously advocate for sustainable fishing solutions, joint working group deliberations, and permanent maritime safety across the Palk Bay to safeguard coastal communities.
