Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed the crucial issue of fiscal federalism in the legislative assembly, explaining how southern states generate immense tax wealth that sustains national development while being penalized with unfair financial devolution. Stalin underscored that for every single rupee Tamil Nadu contributes to the Union exchequer, it receives merely twenty-nine paise in return, whereas northern states receive multiple times their contribution. He highlighted that southern states are effectively being punished for their exemplary governance, economic progress, and successful population stabilization.

The Chief Minister noted that the Dravidian Model governance does not oppose national solidarity, but insists that fiscal redistribution must not compromise the developmental momentum of performing states. He pointed out that withholding rightful financial allocations starves southern infrastructure, healthcare, and education of vital resources. Stalin called for an urgent nationwide reckoning on central tax sharing mechanisms, urging finance commissions to reward administrative performance and fiscal discipline rather than perpetuating structural inequities.
