Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially unveiled the Tamil Nadu State Policy for Women 2024, framing it as an essential milestone in the enduring struggle for gender justice and economic emancipation. Invoking the egalitarian philosophy of Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, Stalin stated that women's genuine freedom requires access to advanced education, financial autonomy, and equal professional opportunities. Formulated by the Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment, the policy framework provides institutional interventions covering preventive healthcare, higher learning, political representation, and female entrepreneurship.
On the same occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated modernized infrastructure projects for public safety and administrative efficiency. These included newly constructed residential quarters and police station complexes in Coimbatore district, alongside a government rest house established in Chintadripet, Chennai. Stalin emphasized that gender equality cannot remain a mere rhetorical talking point; it must be backed by enforceable state policies, budgetary allocations, and dedicated social protection systems.
The Chief Minister asserted that the Dravidian Model governance views gender empowerment as the cornerstone of overall social justice. He instructed executing departments to enforce policy objectives across all sectors, ensuring that women across Tamil Nadu attain comprehensive independence and leadership in public life.
