Pleased to engage in productive discussions with @WorldBank's Managing Director @Bjerde_Anna on enhancing the enduring partnership between Tamil Nadu and the World Bank.
Since 1971, Tamil Nadu has collaborated with the World Bank to enhance agriculture, infrastructure, and social development. With eight projects underway and more in discussion, we look forward to continued cooperation for a prosperous Tamil Nadu!

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin held high-level discussions with World Bank Managing Director Anna Bjerde in Chennai to broaden and strengthen institutional collaboration. Stalin highlighted the five-decade relationship between Tamil Nadu and the World Bank, which commenced in 1971 and successfully delivered landmark initiatives across rural irrigation, municipal modernization, and social welfare. With eight major development programs currently under implementation and several new proposals in active negotiations, the meeting reviewed strategic milestones to accelerate statewide economic prosperity.
The Chief Minister outlined his administration's goal of achieving a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2030, emphasizing inclusive industrial growth, sustainable urban transit, and human capital empowerment. Bjerde commended Tamil Nadu for its fiscal governance, administrative capacity, and commitment to progressive social development programs. Stalin stressed that continued World Bank backing will help finance climate-resilient water systems, women-led entrepreneurship pipelines, and renewable energy grids across tier-two cities and rural blocks.
Stalin expressed deep appreciation for the multilateral institution's sustained partnership over the decades. He affirmed that Tamil Nadu remains determined to model innovative, evidence-based developmental practices that foster sustainable industrialization while uplifting vulnerable communities across all thirty-eight districts.
