Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially dedicated the 150 million liters per day seawater desalination plant at Nemmeli in Chengalpattu district to the public. Delivering the inaugural address, Stalin emphasized that his administration focuses relentlessly on executing high-impact civic utilities that secure long-term urban welfare. The state-of-the-art water purification facility was established at an estimated project outlay of 1,516 crore rupees, providing fresh potable drinking water to nearly nine lakh residents across south Chennai.

Stalin detailed the technological and engineering rigor behind the project, noting that advanced seawater intake conduits and filtration machinery guarantee consistent supply regardless of monsoon patterns. He highlighted how earlier DMK regimes instituted the foundational desalination complexes at Minjur and Nemmeli, establishing Chennai as a pioneer in coastal water resilience. The Chief Minister commended engineers, municipal officials, and construction workers for overcoming technical challenges during execution.

The Chief Minister asserted that equitable water distribution represents a core civil right under the Dravidian Model of governance. He affirmed that ongoing infrastructure investments across urban local bodies will continue to raise quality-of-life benchmarks and safeguard Chennai against future climate stresses.
