Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin paid tribute to the monumental legacy of March 6, 1967, the historic day when the DMK under legendary leader C.N. Annadurai became the first regional party in post-independence India to win state power. Stalin described that electoral watershed as a peaceful democratic revolution in South Asian political history, which ended one-party dominance and placed social justice, regional self-respect, and federal autonomy at the center of governance.
The DMK president emphasized that while the party's historic mission in 1967 was to protect Tamil Nadu's cultural dignity and linguistic rights, its contemporary responsibility has expanded to preserving India's constitutional democracy. Today, the DMK plays a pivotal role in leading the national INDIA alliance to counter central authoritarianism, preserve diversity, and defend federal rights against unitary pressures. Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu's Dravidian movement provides ideological clarity and organizational resilience to protect constitutional values nationwide.
Stalin urged democratic forces to unite with unwavering determination to recreate history in the upcoming parliamentary elections. He affirmed that the struggle to preserve federalism and communal harmony represents the ultimate duty of this generation.
