Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin sharply questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's frequent campaign visits to the state, contrasting his election enthusiasm with his complete absence during severe flood disasters. Stalin pointed out that while the Union government promptly disbursed disaster relief assistance to Gujarat, it withheld necessary financial support from Tamil Nadu despite three months elapsing since devastating inundations. He emphasized that the state government repeatedly submitted formal memorandums seeking disaster funds, yet the Centre refused to release legitimate allocations.

Stalin highlighted a similar step-motherly approach regarding equity clearance and funding releases for Chennai Metro Rail Phase II. The Chief Minister noted that when state leaders demand legitimate fiscal entitlements, the ruling party at the Centre unjustifiably labels them as secessionists. Stalin firmly declared that Tamil Nadu requires no lectures on national patriotism from central leaders whose policies undermine cooperative federalism.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed that state autonomy and equitable fiscal federalism remain non-negotiable principles for the Dravidian movement. He asserted that denying rightful funds penalizes millions of hardworking citizens, vowing to resist political discrimination through united democratic action and constitutional advocacy.
