Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin questioned Pattali Makkal Katchi founder Dr. S. Ramadoss over his political alignment with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Stalin asked whether the PMK leadership secured any firm commitment from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct a nationwide caste-based census and enhance reservation limits for backward classes. He observed that entering an electoral pact with an ideologically centralist party contradicts decades of public advocacy for proportional representation and affirmative action.
Stalin pointed out that the DMK-led government has actively championed social justice through legislative resolutions demanding a national caste enumeration, establishing special sub-quotas, and expanding welfare benefits to marginalized social groups. In contrast, the Union BJP government has consistently refused to count backward castes and undermined federal reservation principles. Stalin stated that both the open BJP alliance and the AIADMK's covert understanding with the ruling party represent opportunistic arrangements devoid of ideological conviction.
The Chief Minister maintained that Tamil Nadu's politically conscious electorate understands the vital importance of protecting constitutional reservations. He expressed confidence that voters will reject political alliances that compromise foundational social justice principles.
