Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin sharply challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's expressions of affection for the Tamil language, pointing out glaring contradictions with central administrative actions. Stalin noted that while the Prime Minister publicly claimed to regret not knowing Tamil, central authorities systematically replaced the classical Tamil term 'Vaanoli' with 'Akashvani' on public radio. He observed that emotional public displays cannot conceal the Union government's aggressive promotion of Hindi across central departments, nationalized banks, and railway services operating inside Tamil Nadu.
Stalin recalled that past promises made to the state, including introducing Tamil announcements on domestic airline flights, remained unfulfilled after five years. He highlighted that airport security personnel and central counters in Tamil Nadu frequently deploy personnel unable to converse in either Tamil or English, inconveniencing local passengers. The Chief Minister stated that enforcing Hindi across public touchpoints directly undermines linguistic equality and constitutional federalism.
Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian movement has always stood as an unyielding fortress protecting Tamil language rights, regional literature, and cultural self-respect. He asserted that electors will decisively reject hypocritical political messaging during the parliamentary polls.
