Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed critical constitutional and political issues in a comprehensive joint interview published by Dinamani and The New Indian Express. Stalin provided detailed perspectives on the 2024 general elections, the Union government's political vendetta against opposition chief ministers, the sudden political posturing on fishermen's rights, and the necessity to curb gubernatorial overreach.
Stalin criticized the central government's flagrant misuse of constitutional offices, pointing out that several state Governors have acted purely as political functionaries to block duly enacted state legislation. He emphasized that the recent Supreme Court interventions have fully vindicated state rights, highlighting the urgent requirement for legal and constitutional safeguards to prevent unelected Governors from undermining democratically elected legislatures.
Addressing federal concerns, Stalin condemned the selective deployment of central enforcement agencies against non-BJP states while granting political impunity to leaders joining the ruling party. He discussed the implementation of women's legislative reservations, exposed the underlying alignment between the AIADMK and BJP in Tamil Nadu, and expressed full confidence that the INDIA bloc will choose a consensus democratic prime ministerial candidate following an electoral victory.
