DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin shared his perspectives on the 2024 parliamentary elections in an interview with The Week, highlighting emerging political shifts across the nation. Stalin asserted that the carefully cultivated political myth surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unravelling rapidly, with citizens across diverse states concluding that ten years of centralized rule have produced economic hardship and institutional decline.
Stalin expressed firm conviction in the collective strength of the opposition INDIA bloc, emphasizing that all coalition partners share unwavering trust in Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He commended Gandhi's nationwide ideological outreach, resilience against political intimidation, and dedicated advocacy for the rights of marginalized communities, youth, and farmers. Stalin described the coalition as a unified democratic movement bound by shared commitments to secularism and federal autonomy.
The DMK leader observed that widespread unemployment, rising commodity prices, and systematic undermining of federal institutions have created strong anti-incumbency across northern and southern states alike. Stalin reiterated that the upcoming elections represent a historic turning point, expressing confidence that the electorate will choose progressive coalition governance to restore democratic norms, protect state rights, and revive shared economic prosperity.
