Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s toxic speech is vile and highly deplorable. Fearing public anger against his failures, Modi has attempted to whip up religious sentiments and resorted to hate speech to avoid what seems to be an imminent defeat. Hate and discrimination are the real guarantees of Modi.

In turning a deaf ear to the PM’s blatant hate speech, the ECI has shamelessly abandoned even a semblance of neutrality.

The socio-economic caste census promised by the INDIA bloc is a remedy long overdue to create an egalitarian society. It is sad that the PM is twisting it and depriving socially disadvantaged communities of their due share in education, jobs, and seats of power.

Leaders of the INDIA bloc should be wary of the BJP's devious diversionary tactics. We must firm up our commitment to exposing the miserable failures of Modi.

Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched a trenchant condemnation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi following a controversial campaign speech in Rajasthan, characterizing the remarks as toxic, vile, and highly deplorable hate speech designed to incite communal discord. Stalin stated that facing imminent electoral defeat, the Prime Minister resorted to whipping up sectarian animosity to divert public attention from ten years of economic mismanagement, rising unemployment, and price inflation.

The Chief Minister severely rebuked the Election Commission of India for maintaining silence over explicit hate speech, alleging that the poll body had abandoned constitutional neutrality. Stalin vigorously defended the INDIA bloc's manifesto pledge to conduct a nationwide socio-economic caste census, describing it as an indispensable measure to establish social justice and provide disadvantaged communities their rightful share in education, employment, and political power.

Stalin warned alliance partners against falling into the BJP's diversionary rhetoric, urging leaders of the INDIA bloc to remain focused on exposing the Union government's structural governance failures. He reiterated that the alliance stands resolute in defending secularism, democratic dignity, and social harmony against polarising campaigns aimed at dividing citizens.
