Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued a comprehensive public health advisory urging citizens across the state to adopt prudent safety precautions to combat severe heatwave conditions prevailing during the peak summer months. Stalin highlighted that soaring daytime temperatures pose significant health hazards, particularly to outdoor laborers, agricultural workers, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and young children susceptible to heatstroke, dehydration, and exhaustion.
The Chief Minister shared detailed guidance formulated by the state Health and Family Welfare Department, advising the public to remain adequately hydrated by drinking plenty of water, buttermilk, tender coconut, and oral rehydration solutions. Citizens were encouraged to avoid strenuous direct sun exposure between noon and late afternoon, wear lightweight cotton clothing, and carry protective umbrellas or head coverings when venturing outside.
Stalin affirmed that the state government instructed all primary health centers, government hospitals, and district medical facilities to maintain adequate stocks of intravenous fluids, ORS packets, and emergency cooling beds to manage heat-related illnesses promptly. He called for collective community care, urging civic bodies and local voluntary organizations to set up shaded drinking water stalls for passersby across major public hubs.
