Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin severely criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government for allocating a meager 276 crore rupees towards disaster relief, despite the state officially requesting 37,907 crore rupees following catastrophic damages caused by Cyclone Michaung and unprecedented southern district floods. Stalin pointed out that even this paltry sum was released only after Tamil Nadu approached the Supreme Court seeking judicial intervention.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the Tamil Nadu government had already disbursed 2,477 crore rupees from its own State Disaster Response Fund to deliver immediate financial aid, food supplies, and essential livelihood assistance to affected families, alongside executing emergency infrastructure repairs across inundated districts. In contrast, the Union government withheld National Disaster Response Fund releases for months, demonstrating complete apathy toward Tamil Nadu's suffering.

Stalin asserted that the Union government's continuous denial of fiscal entitlements and statutory justice to Tamil Nadu reflects political vengeance against a state that rejects divisive politics. He remarked that the people of Tamil Nadu are keenly observing the central government's discriminatory actions, warning that deliberate neglect during acute humanitarian crises would never be forgotten by the state's citizens.
